H-IM training notes for 04/05 wk; new swim record

Posted on: April 8, 2008 10:34 pm

I hit a new high mark on my monthly swim total! This was the first time I've cracked 10,000 yards in a month. I've been swimming for about 2 years now, sometimes with a break when I get burnt out. For whatever reason, I've never gotten over 10,000 yards in a month. It hasn't been a goal I've ever pushed for or anything mind you, it just never happened. I hit 9,000+ yards one month last year, that's as close as I came. I realized on the 31st that I was only about 350 yards from cracking 10k, so I decided to go swim and crack this total. Well, not only did I break 10k but I broke 11k. The best part is that I didn't feel like I was making some massive investment in time & energy. The work with the swim coach has really been paying off.

As for the other parts, I bought a new bike trainer. Well, I say "new". The reality is the online store sent me some completely used POS that was in worse shape than the one I gave to my girlfriend. They swear it was an accident and it was shipped straight from the warehouse, so they're trying to get a new one to me. We'll see how that sorts out. Riding on the trainer can be a real beating; you're not going anywhere and TV can only entertain so much when you're exercising. I don't see me getting much beyond an hour at a time on that thing.

03/30 - 04/06 Totals:
Swim: 1600.00 Yd - 28m 22s
Bike: 50.39 Mi - 3h 03m 48s
Run: 8.19 Mi - 1h 23m 45s

March Totals:
Swim: 11250.00 Yd - 3h 37m 26s
Bike: 136.40 Mi - 8h 35m 29s
Run: 25.56 Mi - 4h 35m 27s

H-IM training notes for 04/05 wk; new swim record

Hey hows it goin'? What is your workout for each day in the Running department? and how did you get your totals for the run? I was looking at 8 miles in 83 minutes breaks down to 10 minutes per mile. So i didn't know if that was a best mark for that distance or just total of what you ran.

H-IM training notes for 04/05 wk; new swim record

My workout really varies by week, but I usually run 2-3 times/week on average.  For that week, I did two runs of about 4 miles each.  The first was part of a brick workout with a 28 mile bike and my pace was a bit slower(a little under 11 min/mile average), whereas the 2nd run was part of a brick with only an 11 mile bike so my pace on the run was faster(9:30 min/mile).  So the total was 83 minutes between the two runs, but each was done at a different pace.  According to the workout plan I'm using(OK I'm using loosely), my heaviest week running will be somewhere in the 23-25 mile range but the average will be more like 10-15 depending on the week.

H-IM training notes for 04/05 wk; new swim record

I'm just starting to run again. I had an emergancy Appendectamy 2 years ago and really never ran a lot after that high school track season. It ruptured in January and i did track in Febuary and havent ran since. Now I am trying to get back in shape for a law enforcement physical. Ugg. I did it once already, but i need to muster up another run. My mile and a half time was 10:48

Well you got me beat on that time.  My fastest mile was 6:58, and I haven't done that in awhile.

About BWG's Half-Ironman Training Blog
Why am I doing this blog? Hell, I'm not sure. Maybe this is my way of keeping myself motivated, because there's a whole world of people staring at my success/failure. If nothing else, it's a way to keep track of everything I'm doing in an informal setting and talk about the highs & lows involved in triathlon training.
